Muhammad Yunus Allegedly Plans to Flee Bangladesh Amid Assassination Plot Against Army Chief

Nobel laureate and interim Bangladeshi leader Muhammad Yunus is reportedly preparing to flee the country amid explosive allegations of his involvement in a plot to assassinate Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman. The claims, first made in a May 21 podcast by journalist Nabonita Chowdhury, have intensified tensions between Yunus and the military. The Army, already critical of Yunus' refusal to set election dates or limit his government's powers, has withdrawn its support. Additional pressure comes from Yunus’ crackdown on journalists and political dissent. As military intervention looms, rumors circulate of Yunus escaping via private jet to a Western country where he holds citizenship.
