Thai Authorities Detain 11 Pakistani Arms Smugglers in Major Bust Along Myanmar Border
In a sweeping cross-border operation, Thai security forces apprehended 36 foreign nationals on Wednesday, 19 November 2025—among them 11 Pakistani nationals—during an attempted illegal river crossing from Myawaddy Township, Myanmar into Tak Province, Thailand.
Authorities report that the suspects had delivered an unspecified cache of weapons and ammunition into Myanmar, with preliminary intelligence suggesting the final recipients were Islamist-jihadist groups operating in the Arakan (Rakhine) region and across the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
Thai officials describe the terrain—along the Thaungyin River opposite Shwe Kokko and Myawaddy—as a long-standing corridor for arms, drugs and human trafficking. A senior officer from the Internal Security Operations Command Region 3 said:
“These were not simple illegal immigrants. They are professional operatives of a structured network that moves firearms and explosives into conflict zones. The presence of so many Pakistanis matches patterns we have seen in earlier cases linking South Asian supply chains to jihadist recipients in Southeast Asia.”
All suspects are currently being held at a military facility in Tak Province where forensic analysis of phones, documents and any recovered weapons is underway. Thai authorities have requested assistance from Interpol for background checks and possible issuance of Red Notices.
Expected charges include illegal border crossing, arms trafficking and conspiracy to support terrorist entities.
